Normal

It’s been a while since I have posted. Since getting back from Winnipeg it feels like time has sped up and slowed down all at the same time. I got to spend some time with my family and now I’m up in Maine completing my last rotation before I graduate.

It’s hard to believe how much has changed. Our life together has never been normal.

1) We were from two completely different places and just happened to find each other online.

2) We had a very bizarre yet wonderful first date.

3) We have been dealing with long distance for four and a half years.

4) Luke was diagnosed with leukemia less than a month after we got engaged.

All that Luke and I want is a normal life together. We want to cook meals, argue over little things, run errands, go to the movies, have dinner dates, etc.

For now we deal with the abnormal. Since my last post Luke has been on the blinatumomab at its full dose. He has had some side effects from it: inflammation, a fever once or twice, pain, etc. They were able to get most of this under control in the hospital and he was discharged on Wednesday with his fancy man-bag full of drug. He has some residual pain but overall he seems well.

I wish I could be there with him to keep him company and keep his spirits up. He fights like hell to always be positive but I know that can be hard when you are by yourself. The support we have been receiving has been phenomenal. I hope everyone continues to keep Luke in their thoughts and prayers. The donations we have received in the last week have been incredible. It’s almost four months rent, or a year of groceries. It is a huge stress off of Luke.

We will get through this and get to normal.
