Finally Getting Started

It’s been a long time since my last blog update. We have been so busy the last few months between my crazy work schedule, Luke’s transplant being repeatedly delayed, all of the COVID-19 chaos, and getting a puppy.

This morning I dropped Luke off at the hospital. This may be the hardest thing I have ever had to do. We did long distance for almost 5 years, so we aren’t new to spending time apart. This is different though. Today starts Luke’s admission for his stem cell transplant. We don’t know how long he will be in the hospital for and this time around he isn’t allowed any visitors due to COVID-19. This absolutely breaks my heart. Being apart from one another is one thing, but not being there to support him and care for him during this tough time makes me sad. I know, however, that it is for the best and for his health as well as all of those on the bone marrow transplant ward. I am thankful for all the wonderful staff taking care of him right now.

Tomorrow Luke will begin getting chemo to wipe out his own stem cells in order to prepare his body to receive the donor cells. This will leave him with no immune system until the new cells start doing their job. With everything going on in the world right now this is scary. A simple infection could be catastrophic. So here is my little spiel about COVID-19.

If you can stay home please stay home! If not for you then for your loved ones and my loved ones. If you need something, see about ordering online, look at grocery delivery options and contact-less pick up. Have a friend who is already out pick things up for you. Make a list before shopping, don’t browse, and only get the essentials. Do not go out if you don’t NEED to.

I repeat, DO NOT GO OUT IF YOU DON’T NEED TO!

On that note I am heading to bed and wishing that my husband was beside me instead of alone in a hospital room. It’s only been one day and me and our fur babies already miss Luke like crazy!
